Dr. Alexander Kim, a highly esteemed figure in public administration and financial oversight, serves as the City Auditor of San Diego. Born in San Diego to Korean immigrant parents, Alexander has always been deeply connected to his community and dedicated to ensuring the fiscal responsibility and transparency of local government operations.
Alexander completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting at the University of California, San Diego, where he developed a keen interest in public finance and audit practices. Driven by a desire to make a tangible impact, he pursued a Master's degree in Public Administration, followed by a Ph.D. in Financial Management from the University of Southern California. His academic achievements laid a strong foundation for his future career in public service.
Before assuming his role as City Auditor, Alexander gained extensive experience working in both the private sector and governmental organizations. His career began at a renowned accounting firm, where he specialized in forensic audits and financial consulting. His expertise in uncovering financial discrepancies and his commitment to ethical practices quickly earned him recognition in the field.
In 2015, Alexander joined the City of San Diego’s Office of the City Auditor as a senior auditor.
